Wendy Paulson, President of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association said in Radio World, “Engineers are the backbone of our industry and this event showcases industry experts and the latest technologies like no other.”
Wisconsin Broadcasters Association President and CEO Michelle Vetterkind was also quoted as saying, “All of these changes, and especially the partnership with our friends in Minnesota, are part of this relentless effort to keep the clinic critical and vibrant.”
September 9, 2024: The Broadcasters Clinic was held at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton, Wisconsin. It all started on Monday night with an evening reception in the Marriott Atrium. Lots of good conversation.
September 10, 2024: A full day of sessions on EAS, AI, frequency coordination, combining FM transmitters, network analyzers and the continuing digital transformation of the radio and television broadcasting industries. There was time for attendees to visit equipment vendors on a display floor. Mark Persons brought a fully restored 1950s Gates Biamote remote broadcast amplifier.
September 11, 2024: More sessions which included site safety, integrating legacy transmitters and other equipment, critical backup power, FCC alternate inspections and succession planning.
September 11, 2024: The Society of Broadcast Engineers National Meeting at the Midwest Regional Broadcasters Clinic. There was a moment of silence for engineers who died on September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center was attacked.
There was a reception and dinner. The Engineer of the Year award went to James Dalke in Seattle, Washington. Larry Wilkins in Montgomery, Alabama, received the SBE Educator of the Year award. SBE Fellows this year included Andrea Cummis from New York, Robert Russell in Philadelphia, PA, and Conrad Trautmann in New York.
